A message from our owner, Tika Haake :
Hi, I’m Tika Haake - founder of Carpe Diem Academics, former Division I athlete, academic coach, and mom of four student-athletes - including two national junior elite gymnasts.
But this isn’t just a business to me. It’s personal.
I’m the daughter of immigrants.I didn’t even discover gymnastics until I was 12 years old. No elite facility. No early start. Just raw talent, a bouncy spirit, and a deep fire to learn.
Through grit, faith, and focused discipline, I went from total beginner to Division I collegiate gymnast in just six years - a journey that’s almost unheard of in the sport.
In college, I trained under legendary coach Chow, whose mentorship shaped my belief that gymnastics is about far more than skills or scores. Under his guidance, I learned the power of mental resilience, self-talk, and steady inner strength - and those lessons became the foundation of the coaching I offer today.
At the same time, I took on the immense challenge of earning a degree in biomedical engineering. I didn’t have much margin for error, so I had to learn fast - what works, what doesn’t, and how to keep going when everything feels overwhelming.
